Rockbridge County Schools are spending up to $141,000 for new school-safety projects, including the addition of a shatter-proof glass wall in the high school’s library.

Markus Ruley, a volunteer firefighter in Rockbridge County, is one of only three adults in the county currently seeking basic certification as an emergency medical technician.


The county is struggling to get enough EMTs to respond to 911 calls partly because of what Ruley and the other two people have to go through to earn certification.

Buena Vista mayor-elect Bill Fitzgerald is ready for a new city manager.

In an interview on Wednesday, Fitzgerald said that it is time “for the city to move forward,” suggesting several changes, including the replacement of Jay Scudder with a new city manager.
